AAR NIGHT MISSION (2 AUG 08) BY CLOWN

1800 EST 2 August, 2008
Border skirmish
Raid on listening post
Teams, Danger - Engage

Scenario:A listening post on the border is using sophisticated technology believed to be supplied by Russian military. A CIA agent was sent in to recon the target, but has not been in contact with HQ. Most of the troops have left the listening post with only a small detatchment left to guard and operate the equipment.Offensive team are charged with the following mission objectives:
1) Collect any equipment that implicates the Russians.
2) Ascertain the whereabouts of the CIA agent and extract.
Tertiary objectives:
3) Terminate any troops in the vicinity.
4) Exfiltrate with as few casualties as possible.

Fun Fact: This was the first briefing in recent history in which there were no Unintended (ed: Accidental) Discharges!

Round One: Danger Team defending.
In the first round danger team set up troops hidden in ambush waiting for the enemy attack. Troops were stationed loosely around the listening post taking advantage of natural obstacles and geography. A roving patrol drew the short straw and were sent to patrol the vicinity. First contact.
A small detatchment of Engage team stumbled upon the patrol and made short work of them. However being close to the listening post retaliation was swift and brutal. Danger casualties were quickly and professionally removed and were respawned.Final confrontation.
The entire force from Engage made a frontal assault through a small corridor between two hedges of lantana. Many casualties were sustained on both sides due to the massive amounts of suppressing fire laid out by Engage's brave SAW gunner (3 respawns. top score for the night). The entire Engage team were slaughtered and were unable to CASEVAC before the final whistle was blown. Special mention to the CIA agent who defected and killed several of his wouldbe rescuers.
Objectives:
1) FAILED
2) FAILED
3) FAILED
4) FAILED
Danger won a decisive victory in both objectives and frags.
Engage laughed when Danger were told they gained 90/1000 points.
Danger laughed when Engage were informed they gained -620/1000 points.

Round Two: Danger Team assaulting.
In the second round Danger team decided not to fall for the mistake Engage made in the first round by charging through the charnel of what became known as the "bottle neck". The tactics decided on was a single trooper was to assault through the thick scrub in a diversion, while the rest of the team attacked via the rear of the listening post.
The Diversion
Upon approaching the bush entrance one of the defenders accidentally had an Unintentended Discharge and alerted the team to their location. The Scrub diversion was abandoned in favour of a diversion through the "bottle neck". The diversion didn't go as planned, and before he knew it the suicidal distraction had infiltrated the listening post. Instead of opening fire on enemies who were 5 meters away the diversion became an extraction. The primary objective was exfiltrated and hidden outside the listening post.
The Assault
Danger team did an excellent job of sneaking behind the listening post and assaulting from the rear. Team leader Chopper identified "The silhouettes of two dimwits with guns over their shoulders" and ordered his team to open fire. The assault was short, fast and thorough, however the primary objective was nowhere to be found. Upon confirmation of the extraction of the primary objective the team exfiltrated via the "bottle neck" in order to make a full sweep of the area. A friendly who had infiltrated the post from that end was unfortunately shot in a case of mistaken identity.
The Comedy
The extraction point was reached with no event, and the primary objective was secured. HQ was contacted with the good news:
HQ - Did you complete the objective?
Sig - Yep. We got the case to the LZ.
HQ - Did you complete the secondary objective?
Sig - Confirming... Yep! we killed 'em all.
HQ - That was the tertiary objective!
Sig - Enlighten me on the Secondary objective please.
HQ - The CIA agent with the blue hat?
Sig - Confirming... Yep! we killed 'em all.
HQ - You were supposed to rescue him!
Sig - Re-filtrating for extraction of the corpse.
HQ - It's too late now!
Sig - C'mon Ace! we still have 30 minutes to complete the objective.
The Bloodbath
Danger went for a frontal assault through the "Bottle neck" just to prove that it could be done. The plan was send an advance scout to infiltrate the post and create a flank inside the bottle neck. The scout crept ahead of the line and was promptly shot by a member of Danger team. A second member rushed forward for an assisted evacuation and was also fragged. Team medic moved forward and respawned them both on the spot and all three were promptly shot again. Danger team decided to regroup before assaulting the post.
The Showdown
With Engage well and truly alerted to the presence of Danger and feeling as if they had just missed the biggest fire fight of the night. Danger moved through the "bottle neck" one by one. One scout made it through but failed to effectively flank the defenders before they opened fire straight through the killzone. More firepower flew through that small space in a minute than in the whol night. Only one soldier survived. The CIA agent had opened fire during the fight and was fired upon, so that objective was not completed before the whistle.
Objectives:
1) PASSED
2) FAILED
3) PASSED, PASSED.
4) DEBATABLE

Danger won, but at a massive cost.

Everyone involved had a great time. Thanks ACE and COUGAR for putting it all together. And thanks to the guys for turning up ready for a battle. Well played all!
